Troubleshooting Your Cable Modem

Reset the Cable Modem

To reset your cable modem, press and hold the reset button, located on the front or back of your modem, for five seconds. If your modem does not have a reset button, you will need to powercycle your modem.

Powercycle the Cable Modem

Sometimes it is necessary to shut down your cable modem connection completely when something isn't functioning properly. This is similar to rebooting your computer. To powercycle your cable modem and restore connectivity, follow the directions below:

  1. Shut down your computer
  2. Unplug the cable modem from the electrical outlet
  3. Leave the cable modem unplugged for at least 10 seconds
  4. Plug the cable modem back into the electrical outlet and allow about 30 seconds to initialize before restarting your computer
  5. Turn your computer back on
